So I learned on 6/9/03 that perception requires a changing stimulus, otherwise it is subjected to habituation... Like your eyes. You can't really see unless your eyes are moving. Even if you consciously fix your eyes on something, your eye muscles are making micro-movements to keep your eyes in motion. Fun stuff. So I was wondering... What if we robbed an individual of the ability to see still objects. You know, quit that micro-movement stuff. Then we could only sense motion. And when you say only sense something, there has to be a sense of absence.
All the while, I'm thinking this could be represented with a new video codec and a nice threashold. Absence would be represented with the canvas color black. And since pixels in video are always changing anyway, there will have to be a threashold to keep the experiment realisitic. Anyway, this movie codec would show what the world would be like with what I call Delta Vision, the ability to only see change. So if the room wasn't moving (a very T-Rex ability this is), you would see blackness. But if I waved my hand across your eyes, all you would see is my arm, and then fade. It'd be so cool, I swear. You would see people walking by, but then fade in and out of existence as they would stop and go.
