Amateur Photography for All

As John and I were discussing, nearly every technophile on this planet has considered becoming an amateur photographer, including students that have taken Photography 101... I know I have. I've been thinking... Hey, I bought all this shit. Now I have to use it, right? And manual photography, as opposed to digital, is painstaking... The part I loved most was developing and staying up all night long. SLR has so much soul that a digital camera or a digital process just doesn't seem to capture. Anyway.

I was thinking... Public darkrooms in the city. I love New York. Hopefully New York and all of its photographic glory will love me back. Typing in darkrooms in Google led me to Photo Manhattan, somewhat promising.

Well, I found this list of darkrooms in NYC... And the best way to get a grip on something is to look at it yourself. Road trip, anyone?

Graduated

So the world is all graduated. But I don't feel a thing.

Congratulations, Mark.

Thanks, Mark.

Open Source and Academia

I've recently thought that CIS classes should take full advantage of their slaves, err, students, and help contribute to open source. So to this post, I fully agree.

Our Football Team is Undefeated

NJ Tech Football, Undefeated

It would make a great shirt, because it's absolutely true. The reason that it is funny is because NJIT doesn't have a football team. Hence, we've never played any games, and haven't had any loses, and are thus undefeated.

And by the way. I absolutely abhor. Abhor? Hate. Hate the phrase "NJ Tech" as a replacement for "NJIT". Never! Never, no never! Fade the... Name. George Tech. Sure. Virginia Tech. Sure. But Mass. Tech? No... M I T. Just like that. Hence, N J I T.

The Downfall of Computer Science at NJIT

[Charles Babbage, Alan Turing, John von Neumann] is to computer science as [Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton] is to physics.

As my Pervasive Computing professor mentioned in class, people the world over would not doubt that every physics major should know who Einstein and Newton are. If someone was to graduate from a college with a degree in physics and not know who they are, that would be a travesty to life.

There we were, a rag tag group of computer science rejects (NJIT isn't that good). And yes, the majority of us didn't know who Babbage, Turing, and von Neumann were. I don't even know how to spell Neumann without looking.

I agree that we should learn more of real computing science and history of computers... But the people here... The audience just isn't conducive to learning about such great things. I mean, forcing everyone to take CIS 113, and then expecting those same computer science students to know the great legends of computer science... I don't think so.

Someone needs to be hit with a clue bat, both students and teachers.

On My Way Out

I got my form for graduation approved. So, that's it. I'm on my way out.

I'm not gonna sad about it, or anything like that. Too many things suck. And so few singular good things... That start to suck after a while. Or suck sometimes.

Let's be done with it.

Miniversity Employment

Turns out I didn't get the Miniversity job. Somehow, I don't think I'm not qualified. Bob probably hated my schedule. Eh, what can I say, I like going to class...

So I'm thinking, but then my thinking is halted. Even though I didn't get the job, I'm still offered a job. I know less than I did before, because I don't even know what my hours are.

Anyway, so I'm thinking. I'm thinking, hey! Why don't I take extra Saturday and 2nd session classes! How cool would that be? Abnormal Psych is listed for Saturdays. Fuckin' psych and fuckin' saturdays... And Design Fundamentals is open too. Mmm, design... I wonder what I'd do in that class...
